This is my short story! Hope you like it! 1
Inner Division
By Mi470
No one could predict it. No one could forget it. It was May, a bright, sunny, May. Luther knew that he had to get away. He was sad because of the death of his girlfriend a month ago.
“Oh,” said Luther to himself. “If only I could have saved Lexi form drowning. That awful day,” said Luther. He arrived at his hotel in Baja California. He exited the taxi with a confident look on his face that said that he would get through the mess. Even if it killed him first. With that, he walked into the hotel.
Late in the night, Luther was fast asleep. Nothing could keep him from feeling good tomorrow. But he was wrong. Down on the beach, the water was as still as a tree. It lay blue with a slight greenish tint. The clouds were fading. The lighthouse was vacant, but well-lit. Two night watchmen, Frank and Jose, were out on the beach, upholding their duties as lighthouse keepers, and as night watchmen. They stayed as alert as they possibly could so they could continue watching for incoming ships. Jose stood on one end of the beach. Frank stood on the other. Jose heard a cry from Frank as he stood alert watching for mysterious activity. “Jose!” Jose replied, “¿Qué?” He ran to Frank.
As Jose arrived, He spotted Frank. “¿Frank, qué pasa?” Jose asked the man who stared at the ocean in a gaze that would not disappear. Frank replied, “Agua verde.” The water seemed strange. Just like Frank said, the water was green. Yet, there was something strange about this water as it glowed greener than before. It swirled fast, and a cold breeze circled around it. A sound like a helicopter taking off was made. Frank and Joe

huddled together and watched as the sound got louder, the water glowed greener, and as it spun faster. Suddenly, the water rose up as fast as a rocket. Out from it was a creature: A monster.
The men stood in shock as this new thing rose from the water, with hands and feet like talons, black eyes, and a long tail. It roared very loudly. Jose began to swear, but before he could utter the rest of it, the monster picked them up, and threw them into the ocean. Their screams were accompanied by a loud swish that sent the sailing across the Pacific. This creature had a plan and purpose for being here. It spread its wings and took off for the city.
Luther was awake. He blinked his eyes a few times, and sat up in bed. The sun shone through the gray clouds just enough to get him out of bed. He sat up and fixed his light brown hair. Then, he headed towards the hotel restroom. He was walking in when he noticed something strange. He found that the sink was gone. In fact, his whole restroom was gone. He stood in shock as he watched the aftermath of what appeared to be a plane crash. The light glared on his blue eyes. Half of the entire hotel had been destroyed.
Below Luther were remains of bodies. There were fingers, heads, corpses, and even a few legs. Blood covered them all, but it dried in the cold atmosphere. Luther saw a man below him. He yelled out, “Hey!” He whistled, “Hey! Look man, I don’t know what freakin’ happened,” he said in an Italian accent, “but I’m freakin’ getting out of here!” Two police officers were escorting survivors out of the area. Yet, they paid no attention

to Luther. Luther asked himself, “What happened?” The faint sound of a police siren could be heard.
He was scared. He didn’t know what he was going to do. He just had tragedy strike last month. He would not let it happen again. To Luther, it seemed that all of this was happening for a reason. He was going to continue his deep thought when he noticed something out of the ordinary. It was a giant footprint. Luther now had a clue as to what had happened. With that, he packed his things, and headed to the town library.
Luther ran in and got out his laptop. He was in a room with ancient Mexican paintings, a dark green wall, and no lighting except form the arched windows. He got on the internet and Googled “Giant, mysterious footprints.” A bunch of ads came up, but there were some good sites too. One of them talked about monsters and invasion. Pictures came up and they were familiar to Luther. He had seen this in movies before. Godzilla, Gamara, and Clover were most recognizable. He thought, “What if this was true? Could there possibly be a real invasion?” He put his laptop up and snacked on a ghoughphtheightteeau (potato). Then the librarian, who appeared to be in he sixties, came over and smacked him in the head. She told him in her best English not to eat his ghoughphtheightteeau in the library. Luther left with a sad look on his face, and took out the snack again. He walked down the street and continued snacking.
When Luther was walking down the street, he had a flashback. It was of the death of his girlfriend. It was April. Both were on a boat. Lexi, his girlfriend, was on the bottom level of the boat. She had her iPod in. She was listening to “Just Dance” by Lady Gaga.

4
As she walked up to the next level, she sang to herself. Luther was on the top level, watching for things that they might bump into. She came up wearing a blue heart necklace, like the one in Titanic. She walked up to him. “Hey, stranger,” she said. They started making out. Then, they looked up above at the stars. Both were unaware of the rock that they ran over.
It made a huge hole in the boat. Water started rushing in fast. Luther jumped up before he could sink. Lexi couldn’t. She died that day, and drowned in the ocean. Luther felt a tear run down his cheek. He loved her with all of his heart. Yet, things happened, and she died. He knew that he couldn’t save her. He stood in pause for a while. His pause was interrupted by a loud roar. It was the monster. This would go bad.
Luther stood as he saw it fly across the island. It was majestically flying like a phoenix. It’s flame everlasting. It opened its mouth and spit out fire. It made a perfectly even streak of burnt ground. As the fire hit the others, it not only burned them, but it burnt through them. It was easy to see that the monster had a plan. The fire blazed so hot. People ran through the enormous amount of corpses. Some ended up running, and fell to the ground bleeding profusely. One ended up running, only to end up burnt severely and decapitated.
The streak continued as the military came. As the monster reached the edge of the island, it roared for all, even the military, to hear. It then flew upwards. No one knew where it would go, or if it would come back. They stood wondering for two minutes. Then, the monster flew down faster than the speed of sound, and where the streak was perfectly marked, split Baja California in two.

The people on the floating half of the island were scared. One even wet his pants. The monster stared them down. It roared, and everyone screamed. Then, it picked up Luther. He looked in its black eyes, and noticed something attached to its head. It was a sapphire blue, heart shaped necklace, like the one in Titanic. He knew then the monsters true identity. It was none other than his girlfriend, Lexi.
How this happened, he would never know. Yet he knew why she had come. It seemed that if she died, she would want him to die with her. She put him down, and people gasped. Soon, the Air Force came and started bombing the island and Lexi and the people. Lexi flew off.
Luther loved her, but he still had to choose what to do. Would he sacrifice himself to save the people and reunite with Lexi, or would he let everyone get bombed. He knew what was right. He ran to find Lexi. It was time.
As he caught up, he yelled to her, “Hey, Lexi! Hey!” She turned and knew what he was doing. She swooped down and swallowed him. As Luther fell, her stomach bubbled with sewage. Lexi’s human remains became one with her brain. “This is it,” Luther said. He fell into her sewage-filled stomach.
Lexi’s eyes turned bright red. As this happened, Luther parasitically grew out of her mouth. Then, they froze in time. Soon, Luther and Lexi were shot out, and returned to their normal selves. The heart necklace fell, and landed around Lexi’s neck. They kissed, and everyone applauded. They realized that Inner Division could never keep them apart.
